The Higby list is under construction
Jeduthan Higby was born in 1783 in either Connecticut or New York, the son of JeduthanHigby, Sr. and Adah Parker. He died in 1869 in Sheffield, Bureau County, Illinois. He
married Prudence Marple Larew, Widow of Jacob Larew on 12 /08 1836 in Hampshire
County, West Virginia. She was the daughter of David Marple and Margaret Purtlebaugh.
Prudence died in 1892/93 at Wellington, Summner County, Kansas.
We are not certain where Jeduthan Higby is buried. One story is that he was killed when
Union Soldiers burnt the Higby home after the war was over, And that he is buried near
their old home. He does not appear on any census in 1880 so he died before then.
Prudence Marple was married to Jacob Larew before 1830. Jacob was born in Hampshire
County, Va. and died in 1836. He was the son of Noah Larew and Rachel. Prudence and
Jacob had three Children: David Larew born 1831, Sarah Larew born 1834, One other
Daughter.
Jeduthan Higby was married to Barbara Easter who died before 1836. Barbara was born
on 12/17/1793. They had three children: Davis K. Higby born 07/1833 in Hampshire,
West Virginia. Catherine and the third child is unknown. Davis K. Higby according to
the 1880 census was living in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania and had one daughter,
Laura who was born 1878.
Prudence Marple was a smart and very liberated lady for her time in which she lived.
She insisted on a premarital agreement with Jeduthen Higby. Jeduthen Higby was a
teacher who would pack his wagon and go trade with the Indians every summer. In New
York across the ridge was another Family listed with Jeduthen Higby as the father and
the mother Dorinda Reagan. The Children where named the same as in our family line.
Dorinda Reagan is buried in the church yard cemetery, Jeduthen the father is not mention
in any of the records. We canâ™t prove or disprove, but that may have been the trading
Jeduthan did evey summer.
Adah Belle Higby always called her father Professor.

5 William milton Higby born 1845 died 1908. Married Ellen Taylor.
6. Commodore Perry Higby born 1848 married Jane Taylor, twin to Ellen Taylor.
7. Francis H. Hagby born 1851.
8. Adah Belle Higby born 02/10/1853 died 01/10/1925. She married George Dixon
02/10/1872 in Sheffield, Illinois.
